RB-5 EVOLUTION OF FUEL OIL SLUDGE FORMATION IN THE COOSUR POWER

1 – BACKGROUND
COOSUR power plant is located in
VILCHES (Jaén - Spain) and it is composed by 2 Wärtsilä engines type 12V 46 B ,
working on fuel-oil, with a power of 10,5 MW each one.
The plant was started up on March 1999
using Sspanish fuel oil No. 1,
without additive.
After being operated during 2 years in this
condition, the plant decided to use the fuel oil additive "rb bertomeu" beco F1/ASF starting in April 2001, in
order to improve the global economy of the installation.
The present report shows the good results
achieved by COOSUR regarding the reduction in fuel oil sludge and
also in lubricanting oil sludge ( both generated in their corresponding purifiers during
the plant operation) , since they started the treatment of fuel oil with the
additive "rb bertomeu"
beco F1/ASF, as they have enough comparative
data referred to the years 2000 , 2001 and 2002. All data shown below
have been supplied by COOSUR.
The most important data is the reduction
in the generation of fuel oil sludge because it means very important save
in fuel (organic sludges not generaterd
are consumed as fuel) and save in transport and destruction of that sludge by
an authorized company.
Observed decreasing in generation of
lubricating oil sludge is also indicated as one more data to be taking into acount when the profitability of "rb bertomeu" beco F1/ASF is evaluated

5 - CONCLUSION The reduction of 54,8 % in fuel
oil sludge generation, measured in the power
plant of COOSUR, is into the range of reduction guaranteed by the use of the
fuel oil additive "rb bertomeu"
beco F1/ASF, which confirms, in this point, the
economical profit of the treatment with this additive.
